UNIDENTIFIED : 1941 - 1945 and 1966 - 1970 ORIGINAL, FASCINATING MULTI ERA PAIR [2] OF MANUSCRIPT DIARIES SPANNING THE WORLD WAR II YEARS TO THE HIPPIE ERA

16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. On offer is a fascinating pair [2] of very full five year diaries by an unidentified Syracuse New York woman who offers a unique perspective through the 10 years of her writings spanning the War era and then the 'hippie era'. The first diary is dated 1941 through 1945 and in this diary on November 14th, 1941 she turns 28 years old. She also celebrates her wedding anniversary on September 1st. She is married to a man by the name of John and they seem very much in love but something must have happened to John because in the second diary dated 1966 - 1970 John does not seem to be mentioned and there is a Mike in the picture. Here are some snippets: 1941-1945 New Years' Days: "John suggested while we were having our high balls last night that we try dancing home. We did. I can't seem to follow him very well. John arrived early, out for a walk. Bought qt. of ice cream….I know my darling John really and truly loves me. He is the best boy in this whole wide would. He said "This is the nicest Sunday morning I have ever had." We both really meant all of it too….In John's letter that arrived to day he said he was more happy than he'd been in a long time because I had accepted his proposal. He went on to say that my acceptance was beautifully expressed and that I was his whole life. The dear darling boy! I want to prove to him that we can be happy!.....Left at 9:20 on our weekend trip. Visited Letchworth Park, took a roll of pictures. Crossed the border into Canada. Slept in a cabin. No. 10…Viewed the Canadian side of the falls, Horseshoe Falls really beautiful! Walked around for several hours in Canada. Left for home at 3:30. Drove the last 100 miles…..6 months of this year gone. Please dear God, soon may I see John again. Wrote John a V-mail last night quoting that July 3, 1941 entry. Saw "White Cliffs of Dover." With Barbara…..Decided to do a bit of investigating! Out to 307 De Witt Road. She's not any more ill visibly than I am! Stayed 1 ½ hrs. Told to come out again 1:00….." December 31st: 1941, John attended party at work last night. John came after me at work, met the gang. Shampooed my hair, dressed in my black dress and left for his house for New Years…1942, The last day of the 1942 tense year. Glad it's almost history! Pretty darn cold out now. Wrote my last letter of this year to my darling John…1943, Looked in vain for a skirt this noon, quite disappointed so tired and worn out. I felt awful lonesome. Had a glass of wine and was in bed before 10:30….1944, Didn't wake until after 9:00 so I attended 11:00 mass. Last time for 1944. Nothing much doing so was in bed before mid night. Heard the whistle….1945, A sad yet eventful year in on the wane. Another year in my life's history of time! Peace as declared but was it. What will come to be, will be." Both diaries measure about 4 ¼" x 5 ½" and the early diary is in great shape but the later diary has the cover completely pulled off of the binding but it is accounted for. Pages and binding however look good. Overall G+.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Good+
